2013 Summer Blockbuster's Triumph and Defeat

A Chinese old saying, "Every injustice has its perpetrator and every debt its debtor". Summer movie box office failure does not only mean there won’t be a sequel, it will also cause a series of unwanted chain reactions. 2013 summer blockbuster biggest money losers, RIPD and The Lone Ranger, caused a negative impact on its creator. On the contrary, Box-office big hit, Despicable Me 2 created a wave of Minions movie sequel, The Minions Movie, which joined in 2015’s (the biggest blockbuster movies release years ever) summer blockbusters battle field.

Layoff is usually the “best” solution after the money has gone to the drain. Former Universal Studio CEO, Adam Fogelson, made his shocking exist out in Sept 2013 (http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/shocker-adam-fogelson-out-in-universal-shakeup/). According to the Studio internal source, it was due to The Lone Ranger box office failure. After few weeks later, Walt Disney Co. also ended partnership with producer, Jerry Bruckheimer (http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/09/21/disney-jerry-bruckheimer/). Bruckheimer and Disney has been partner since the 90’s. Within 20 some years, Bruckheimer produced great hits for the studio as National Treasure and Pirates of the Caribbean, which brought Disney huge incomes. However, his high demand at 215 million on The Lone Ranger that cost a significant lost for Disney. The film only received 86,950,000 in US and 1.76 million worldwide. Although media and everyone else knew that The Lone Ranger was the main fuse for the break up but Bruckheimer and Disney did not clearly confirm and only stated due to the difference of objective on both parties.

However, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer will complete some projects that were previously signed, including Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and National Treasure 3. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 were originally scheduled for July 10, 2015 release will now be postponed to 2016.

On the other hand, Universal decided to release The Minions Movie around 2015 4th July weekend and battle with Independence Day 2, Terminator 5 and Warner’s Superman vs Spiderman that also releases in summer 2015. It’s going to be a huge summer blockbuster, which movie do you think will win??

Transflix’s very first movie review video is now online!!

When he’s most vulnerable, he’s most dangerous!

The Wolverine is a 2013 American-Australian superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. It is the sixth installment in the X-Men film series and follows the events of X-Men: The Last Stand.

If you enjoyed Wolverine, you will certainly not be disappointed by the epic action sequences.

Drag Down
  • It still falls short of the top tier of Marvel tentpoles like the fizzy Iron Man and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.

Drag Up
  • Hugh Jackman is still The Wolverine not Channing Tatum
  • Humorous but touching moments with Logan's "bodyguard"
  • Completely erased the awful memory of Origins away
  • Mangold mixes influences from noir, westerns, and martial arts films in a kind of genre alchemy, framing the wandering Wolverine as a ronin — a samurai without a master or purpose.

If you saw this movie or any other X-Men movies, let us know and write your own reviews in below comment field.

'Fast and Furious 6' Beats 'Hangover 3’ For Memorial Day Weekend!!

"Fast & Furious 6" blew past the finish line at the box office on Memorial Day weekend, leaving "The Hangover Part III" to face a sobering reality.

I went to see both movies on the Memorial weekend.   I really enjoyed the engines power more than sober up comedy.  If you think Hangover 2 was a big disappointment, then I suggested you don’t bother to watch the 3rd installment!!    See below on my brief pinpoint review on HO3.

Drag Down
  • No wedding, no bachelor party
  • Lame action/adventure movie than a raunchy comedy
  • When these guys are sober, it just isn't as funny.
  • Lacked of the craziness

Drag Up
  • End credits hint is funnier than the actual movie
  • Melissa McCarthy

If you also saw both movies, let us know and write your own reviews in below comment field.

Check back next week when Will Smith’s post-apocalyptic After Earth opens against the Jesse Eisenberg thriller Now You See Me.

  4. Hi Shelbe, was that James Mangold, the one who directed "Walk the Line" with Joaquin Phoenix? He has done a lot and I know he is related to or married to someone in the industry, unless I'm thinking of something else. Anyway, glad that a man can sing and kick ass. Worth knowing.

  6. On a personal note, I have long been looking forward to the fall of Jerry Bruckheimer because he doesn't embrace the things I like about Hollywood, he doesn't seem very intellectual.

  7. Hey wait a minute you didn't like X-Men Origins? What didn't you like about it? I was brain washed by Rose Byrne, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence underwear scenes, that is the one you were talking about right, and with Michael Fassbender, yeah, that was my favorite one so far
